Release of IDM-Portal 5.0 – Your tailored IAM solution
With version 5.0, the IDM-Portal presents itself in a completely revised and modernized version. IDM Portal 5.0 offers completely new options for flexibly configuring the portal. As a result, it can be adapted precisely to the needs of the company as a customized IAM solution.
Flexibly expandable menus and the new design of the GUI enable interfaces for specific use cases. They make the application even more user-friendly, clearer and easier to use.
With improved MS Cloud integration, Exchange online administration and the fast integration of multiple domains, version 5.0 takes another big step towards user-friendliness.

Holistic design revision
Menu structures and basic configurations of the user interfaces of the IDM-Portal have been fundamentally revised. The UX and design have been modernized.
The menu has been modified accordingly. This is now displayed on the left-hand side as the hamburger menu and can be folded in and out.
The side menu offers a selection of different categories for identity management, such as users, groups and devices. Any number of menu items can be created and clearly integrated.
High flexibility due to configurability
Version 5.0 of the IDM-Portal Configurator has been extensively expanded and offers customers high flexibility in the use of the portal.
In particular, application-specific pages can now be created based on different aspects and user groups, such as
- internal user
- external user
- laptops
- desktops
- mobile devices
In practice, internal users often have different identity data than external users. For example, a personnel number is maintained internally, while a customer number or external email address is maintained for external identities. Desktop computers have different attributes than laptops or mobile devices.
If a company has several companies that maintain their users with different data sets, these can be managed with customized templates and customized attributes/fields. This means that each page in IDM-Portal 5.0 can be defined with individual attribute, label and role configurations.
Quick administration of Exchange Online authorizations
Another new feature is the “ListPickUp-Control” for simplified management of Exchange permissions for mailboxes.
Microsoft describes the permissions that you can assign to people for mailboxes and groups in Exchange Online in order to act as a proxy in more detail on the page “Managing permissions for recipients in Exchange Online”:
- Full access
- Send as
- Send on behalf
The control can be used to read the users and groups in the delegation authorizations and add or remove new users and groups.
Clicking on the “+” sign opens a dialog box in which users and groups can be added. Thanks to this extension in IDM-Portal 5.0, other people, so-called “substitutes”, can access a mailbox when the owner is not there or send emails that originate from the mailbox or group.
Further new features in IDM-Portal 5.0
Simplified selection of a manager
It is now easier to search for a manager in a user’s profile (UserPicker for ManagerSearch). A separate search and column view can now be configured for each page.
It is also possible to display different managers or persons responsible for an internal user than for an external user.
Create additional e-mail addresses
The AD attribute “proxyAddresses” is available for managing additional mail addresses. In addition to the primary mail address, a user can have so-called additional “proxy addresses”, such as
- secondary e-mail address,
- SIP addresses and more.
With the new “ProxyAddress-Control”, mail addresses (with smtp: and SMTP: in front) for users, distribution lists and shared mailboxes can be added or removed in the IDM-Portal 5.0.
Typical application:
An employee with the email address maria.schmidt@univice.com gets married and changes her surname. Her new primary address becomes maria.mueller@univice.com. maria.mueller@univice.com can also be added as a second email address, as she may wish to receive emails from this email address for the next 6 months. It is now easier to enter additional email addresses in the IDM-Portal.
Extended functionalities for roles
The new “RoleExtensionProvider” offers EnterpriseEdition customers the option of configuring special role extensions in addition to the standard Configurator roles. These role extensions are not overwritten during configuration imports.
For example, this makes it possible to split templates so that each role has its own templates. This means that not only one specific “department” or “company” CSV file can be stored, but several CSV files, each in separate subfolders. These different files are then available when filling in the fields in a user’s profile screen.
Integration of different domains
Companies that want to manage subsidiaries with different domains on one platform, for example, can now fully implement this with the IDM-Portal 5.0. By activating a “domain ID” function, the portal immediately recognizes where which data is located. This makes it easy to process multiple companies, as the data automatically ends up in the correct domain.
Typical application:
This powerful functionality in IDM-Portal is particularly interesting for large companies and public authorities that have integrated multiple domains due to mergers and acquisitions. Service providers, such as system houses that look after several customers, also benefit from the client capability of the IDM-Portal. This means that many customers with individual domains can be managed clearly, accurately and securely via one platform.
Further optimizations
In the latest version, the IDM-Portal core components and their direct and extended modules for Pro and Enterprise have been updated to the latest framework version 4.8 (for Windows systems). This includes modules for configuration, automation, workflow control and the Powershell provider. In addition, further performance improvements, bug fixes and updates have been implemented to ensure a secure application.
